Emmy nominated choreographer and director, Helene Phillips is a true visionary with an incredible talent for keeping her body of work passionate, committed, and most importantly, “real.”
Whether she’s directing Michael Jackson or choreographing Madonna, Helene’s input ignites every area of a project. “I can see how I want the final images to look, and then backtrack to make that vision come to fruition.”
As a pivotal director and choreographer, Helene Phillips is known for lighting fires—creating the culture, setting the spark, and managing the resources to keep herself and her team focused, prepared, motivated, challenged, and consistently successful. Her shows are goal-directed: she creates the vision, executes it, and brings it to fruition. Sir Richard Attenborough called her tireless. Michael Gill, the renowned producer who brings Broadway shows to Las Vegas, calls Helene’s visions Revolutionary. She possesses more boundless energy than anyone else in the room, as well as the drive and knowledge to create visions from beginning to end. Helene is connected to the most influential people in the industry.
Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas, while working on the largest production of its time, a 3-D film called Captain EO with Michael Jackson, turned the direction and the choreography over to her because they felt she was the only one who knew what she was doing. Anjelica Houston requested Helene to direct her for the same reason. Helene was handed over the microphone and would yell Action and Cut. She collaborated with every department working on this project and directed Michael Jackson in the recording studio. The team knew they could count on her.
In a progressively challenging career, she has worked with legendary performers and directors for the past 20 years, among which were Madonna (Who’s That Girl Tour), Miley Cyrus (The VMAs), John Travolta (Stayin’ Alive), James Brown and Dan Aykroyd (Dr. Detroit), Michael Douglas (A Chorus Line – the film), John Candy (Going Berserk), Rosie O’ Donnell and Penny Marshall (all Christmas holiday spots for K-Mart), Christina Applegate and Jay Mohr (Mafia), Charlie Sheen and Anna Faris (A Spelling Bee), Peter Gabriel and Sting (life benefit concerts), Denis Leary and Elizabeth Hurley (Dawg), and the list goes on and on.
Helene has been nominated for an Emmy for her work on Papa’s Angels starring Scott Bakula and Cynthia Nixon. She has been a key directing and choreographing force behind such artists as Karyn White’s Love the way you love me, Klymaxx’s Meeting in the ladies’ room, Jack Wagner’s The Weatherman Says, and Was Not Was’ Walk the Dinosaur. She has also conceptualized, directed, staged, and choreographed Main Showrooms for such cruise ships as the QEII and the Oceania Riviera.
Helene has created shows across broad industries. Her modus operandi is to first envision the entire project and then she backtracks so she knows how to involve the lighting and wardrobe people, as well as the editor. Helene’s expertise in music and editing is unique as a result of a lifetime of connecting sound, movement, and storyline.
Helene has been a consistent top director/choreographer who sets the vision and motivates her team to extraordinary achievements. She has an international family and professional experience that spans the world. She is comfortable in a wide range of cultures and geographies. She brings not only a sharp intelligence, but a powerful leadership style that is inclusive, collaborative, and motivational.
